Looking Ahead: Growth, Policy, and Opportunity in 2026
As we move through 2026, it’s hard to ignore the significance of this year for South Dakota. With a major election cycle underway, the decisions being made today will shape the trajectory of our communities, our workforce, and our economy for years to come.
From our perspective in the construction industry, policy isn’t abstract - it directly impacts how and where growth happens.
Strong, forward-thinking policymakers play a critical role in sustaining economic momentum. Programs that support development - like CAPS initiatives and Tax Increment Financing (TIF) districts - aren’t just tools on paper; they’re what make complex projects feasible. They help bridge gaps, unlock investment, and bring ideas to life in ways that benefit entire communities.
We’re seeing that impact firsthand.
The transition and relocation of Smithfield is opening the door to what will be one of the most significant redevelopment opportunities in our region’s history. A site that has long been tied to industry is now positioned for a new chapter - one that could redefine downtown and create lasting value for Sioux Falls.
At the same time, continued investment in infrastructure - like enhancements to our regional airport - signals confidence in long-term growth. These kinds of improvements don’t just support travel; they strengthen business attraction, workforce accessibility, and overall connectivity.
What ties all of this together is alignment.
When policy, planning, and private investment move in the same direction, progress follows. But that kind of alignment doesn’t happen by accident - it requires leadership that understands both the immediate needs of today and the long-term vision for tomorrow.
As a company rooted in South Dakota, we care deeply about where our communities are headed. We’ve seen what’s possible when the right pieces come together, and we’re optimistic about the opportunities in front of us.
The year ahead will bring important decisions. And with them, the chance to continue building not just projects - but stronger communities across the state.
